Over half of business registration cases in HCMC so far this year have been made online, which proves fruitful efforts by authorities in making life easier for enterprises, a senior city official said. Nguyen Van Hung, deputy director of the HCMC Department of Planning and Investment, said that 5,500 cases out of some 10,900 domestic enterprises in the city were licensed in the January-August period. Online business registration was first carried out in late 2000 on a trial basis for private enterprises, and the department was able to grant licenses for only some 6% of 1,777 newly-established private enterprises in 2001. Online business registration helps save on much time for investors on one hand, and reduces the workload pressure for the department on the other, Hung said, explaining that thousands of investors come to learn about formalities for establishing new companies each month. In the near future, besides granting business registration certificates, the department will also become a place for tax code registration and other regulatory jobs for newly-established enterprises. read more
